Universal Robina Corporation (URC), owned by FILIPINO, has received three prestigious sustainability awards for its efficient waste management process at its production plants in Thailand.

URC Thailand received the 3Rs, 3Rs + and Zero Waste Achievement Awards from the Thai Department of Industrial Works, Ministry of Industry, for its efforts to reduce waste and annual costs at its factories.

These efforts have proven to be effective in conserving natural resources, landfill space and energy, the company said.

“This recognition confirms that we are on the right track to fulfill our corporate social responsibility to protect the environment by reducing waste from our factories through recycling and other methods that maximize the use of materials. raw materials, ”said Tanant Suwanraks, Managing Director of URC Thailand.

The 3Rs, 3Rs + and Zero Waste Achievement Awards recognize companies that use efficient waste management systems that help improve environmental sustainability and encourage ethical business and consumer social responsibility.

URC Thailand’s factories 4 to 6 won the Gold Level 3Rs + Award, while its factories 1 to 3 won the Silver Level 3Rs + Award for three types of new innovations or creations. This includes economic returns such as the Discounted Payback Period (PBO) for less than a year; Internal rate of return (IRR) greater than 1000%; and waste reduction effectiveness by practicing and following the 3Rs (reduce, reuse and recycle) method and meet more than 80% of the required audit criteria.

To get the Zero Waste Achievement Award, URC Thailand factories 1 to 6 had to pass the 3R practice criteria and win the 3Rs award.

These factories were able to reduce their total waste to 1,000.76 tonnes, thereby reducing the cost of disposal and lost pulp cost by 1,994,659 Thai baht (approximately 3,074,208 Thai baht). From the waste, the factories produced 762,078.00 kWh of electricity and saved 267.47 tonnes of CO2, which equates to sustainable green energy for 94 households.
