As South Africa’s attempt to vaccinate the country against COVID-19 intensifies, those who choose to be vaccinated now have a set of ‘rewards’ they can claim – and increasingly. more companies are looking to offer “jab incentives”.

Grocery stores, insurance companies and even private citizens of Mzansi launched programs last week, which seek to motivate hesitant citizens to take the plunge. About 25% of South Africans have expressed concerns about obtaining COVID-19 vaccines, and it is hoped that more people can be influenced by these offers.

  • Dr Marina Joubert, a researcher at the University of Stellenbosch, thinks the incentives are a good idea:

“Personally I would say, especially in the South African situation, I see no problem in making vaccination a positive experience, like giving people a hot cup of coffee or even a nutritious meal while they wait. But government officials also need to focus on implementing more effective science communication. “ | Dr Joubert

The first rewards available for vaccinated South Africans:

Cheaper insurance premiums as ‘jab inducements’

Discovery became the first company in South Africa to dip its toes in vaccine awards. They confirmed last week that any customer requesting a new premium will have their vaccination status taken into account, offering discounted offers and reimbursement programs for trapped citizens.

“For all new clients who subscribe to one of our eligible life plans, a benefit will be offered to recognize the value of vaccinations in reducing risk. And all customers who have been vaccinated or who pledge to get vaccinated can get up to 100% PayBack premium accumulation – on the first anniversary of their new policy.

Free coffees for the vaccinated

Wimpy is the first food outlet to promote vaccination in South Africa. Anyone who has received their vaccine can purchase a free filter coffee in one of its restaurants, as long as it is within 48 hours of booking. Those who wish to take advantage of this offer must also bring their vaccination record with them.

“Now that the vaccines are given to citizens aged 35 and over, Wimpy hopes to generate enthusiasm to fight the virus. If you are helping South Africa overcome this pandemic by receiving your COVID-19 vaccine, come and enjoy every moment and have a coffee on us ”,

Jacques Cronje, marketing manager for Wimpy

Hello, Jolene Samuels. After organizing a “vaccine raffle” for his friends on Facebook, the idea exploded.
