Last year, the Spring League not only expanded to eight teams, but also broadcast every game on the FOX family of channels. For the 2021 season, the league played in Indianapolis and Houston, each hosting their own division.

At the end of the season, the top two teams met at Rice Stadium in Houston, TX for the league championship game, the Mega Bowl. Until then, Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, IN, was the only venue open to the public.

During the Spring League season, it was revealed that the USFL will return in 2022. The new league will be led by FOX and Brian Woods, founder and CEO of TSL. Needless to say, there has been no information on if and how TSL will exist in the future.

Not that this is an indicator of either, but it looks like the Spring League is on the verge of getting into litigation.

LBJ.com reports that B&D Associates, the Crowne Plaza Union resort ownership group and the Marion County Capital Improvement Council have filed lawsuits in Marion County Commercial Court against Spring League LLC.

The lawsuits allege that the Spring League racked up a bill of $ 1.1 million during his stay at the hotel, as well as another bill of nearly $ 235,000 for six games played at the stadium.

As per the Crowne Plaza costume, TSL has booked over 4,700 room nights during the 2021 season. The bill also includes food purchased at the hotel convenience kiosk, parking, use of the banquet hall, breakfasts and other meals.

According to the lawsuit, Brian Woods told the hotel’s general manager in an email that he expected the bill to be paid by the end of August.

The Spring League scheduled for the “”closing of a major capital increase in the next 2-3 weeks. Accordingly, we will use this proceeds to pay the Crowne Plaza by October 15th for the full balance. The lawsuit alleges that the payments have not yet been received.

It’s hard to say how all of this will play out, but we don’t expect this to have an impact on the next USFL. That being said, we hope the sellers will receive their money back as originally agreed.

We will keep you posted as more information is revealed.
