WHEREAS the State of Alaska appreciates the continued strong international relations with the Republic of Korea and appreciates the Korean community’s many contributions to the economic and cultural diversity of the Last Frontier; and

WHEREAS the Korean Consular Office in Anchorage is a sign of the commitment between the citizens of Alaska and the Republic of Korea to maintain strong ties; and

WHEREAS Korean Air and Asiana Airlines facilitate international trade between Korea and Alaska by providing essential air cargo routes, and Korean Air is developing Alaska’s tourism industry by providing seasonal air charter services of passengers; and

WHEREAS this day provides us with an opportunity to celebrate the long-standing and mutually beneficial business partnership that represents hundreds of millions of dollars in exports of seafood, minerals, forest products, energy and more from our state; and

WHEREAS Koreans and Korean-Americans have had a significant impact on the culture and history of Alaska, and with deep gratitude we celebrate these contributions and look forward to the continued strengthening of the bond between Korea and the ‘Alaska.

THEREFORE I, Mike Dunleavy, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF ALASKA, proclaim June 26, 2021 as:

Korea-Alaska Friendship Day

in Alaska, and encourage all Alaskans and Koreans to properly recognize and celebrate our strong international bonds of friendship, culture and commerce.
