New Delhi [India], Nov 22 (ANI): Katherine Tai, United States Trade Representative (USTR), who is on a two-day visit to India, said there is huge potential for growth between the two economies in areas such as than the digital economy, services, health-related commerce, and even agriculture.
Speaking at the 2021 India-United States Trade Policy Forum (TPF), Tai said India’s greatest asset is its people.
Speaking about the trade relationship between India and the United States, Tai said, “The trade relationship between our two countries is a top priority, both for President Biden and for me. That is why it was important for me to come to India and restart the business. political forum on my first trip to Asia. “
“I know that all of you in this room are equally invested in this trading relationship. You work hard to create business enterprises, navigate the trading system and strengthen the bonds between our countries on a daily basis,” Tai said.
She also said that “at USTR, we frequently hear from our stakeholders on issues of transporting goods and services between our two countries, restrictions on market access, high tariffs, unpredictable regulatory requirements, restrictive digital trade measures. “
“These are issues that we intend to move forward on and they will be on my list while I am here (in India),” she added.
Meanwhile, Union Minister of Trade and Industry Piyush Goyal also said that TPF 2021 marks the start of a new chapter in India-US trade relations.
“I believe India’s competitive advantages in terms of costs, skilled labor and huge domestic market demand, combined with innovation and investment from the United States, can become a a winning partnership between natural friends, ”said Goyal.
He also said that India and the United States can use this platform to engage and resolve outstanding issues amicably and send a strong message to the world that the partnership between the United States and the India is stronger than ever.
“I hope that our meetings will encourage the business community and investors on both sides to consider a greater degree of engagement,” said the minister.
Tai, who is on a two-day visit to India, is accompanied by US Deputy Trade Representative Sarah Bianchi. (ANI)
