Streamers around the world were surprised by an email this week informing them that HBO would no longer be available through Amazon Prime. Here’s what you need to know.
Ultimately, if you got your HBO channels through your Amazon account, your monthly subscription was canceled on September 15th. This major change would affect over 4 million former HBO subscribers.
Depending on your billing cycle, you may be eligible for a partial refund for unused days. The pro-rated refund will automatically be credited to your Amazon account; there is nothing you can do.
Parent company Warner Media, LLC, meanwhile, isn’t saying much about the change. A single page of their HBO Max help section simply urges former subscribers to look for the right deals when it comes to signing up. If you sign up directly before September 26, the monthly fee will be reduced by 50%, to $ 7.49 for six months.
The Twitter verse isn’t happy with this new development, to say the least.
You missed the news that HBO is pulling its business from other streaming services. Maybe I’m just sensitive but this email from Amazon “we’re canceling your HBO, just sit there and say nothing” pic.twitter.com/tijGnV67tG

Amazon just randomly canceled everyone’s HBO subscription via Prime …. when I’m 8 episodes away from ending my massive Sopranos frenzy, which I’ve never seen! ??!
