The Transport Committee will meet on Tuesday

The Vermilion County Transportation Committee will meet Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. before the Vermilion County Council meeting.

The meeting will be held at the Vermilion County Administration Building, 201 N. Vermilion Street, second floor.

The YPN group will meet on Wednesday

On Wednesday, March 9, join the Young Professionals Network for lunch at Vermilion County’s newest restaurant business, Mimi’s Kitchen.

Speakers include Ashton Greer of the City of Danville and Earle Steiner of the Illinois Small Business Development Center at Danville Area Community College.

The meeting will be held at the Masonic Temple, 109 North Str. in Danville. It starts at 11:30 a.m. The cost is $15. Vermilion Advantage will invoice participants.

Late check-out classes begin March 14

It’s not too late to enroll in spring classes at Danville Area Community College. Spring 2022 late start classes begin March 14.

DACC will be offering in-person and online late check-out classes.

An enrollee can withdraw $600 of full-time tuition for these courses. Some restrictions apply. Discounts are non-refundable.

Natives advance with state chamber

Laurie Silvey is now Vice President of Business Services and Chair of the Business Management Center for the Illinois Chamber of Commerce.

Silvey is responsible for producing the chamber’s events, webinars and seminars, which have been heavily impacted by COVID-19. She continues to try new things and create new topics to bring value to members and non-members. She is also responsible for launching a number of non-dues revenue programs this year.

Silvey will continue her work with the Illinois Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), an organization with which she has been active for many years. She is the current President of the State of Illinois and is in her second term as an Employer Representative on ESGR’s National Board of Directors.

Silvey grew up in Catlin and now resides in Athens with her husband, Todd, and their bull terrier, Fiona.
